We have also extended the track featuring pharma and biotech case studies to two days.
There is of course an exploration of the business case for digital pathology. This includes case study examples of the implementation of the technology at both large and mid-size institutions. Learn about some of the practical approaches for building the right environment for installation from experts who have already done it. In addition, the popular roundtables provided an interactive setting for attendees to discuss a variety of more specialized themes such as multiplex imaging technology.

Dr. Fadiel has more than 20 years of research experience in cancer molecular biology and bioinformatics developing protein interaction networks and pathway models to increase understanding of cancer progression. His research and development work in academia and industry used molecular dynamics simulations to study structural aspects of drug/target/ligand interactions. Dr. Fadiel has experience integrating and analyzing high throughput data and developing computational methods and tools for analyzing and incorporating these data. Dr. Fadiel has developed many novel bioinformatics algorithms and tools for Oncology Data Analysis, including digital pathology and AI-based Oncology GIS. Dr. Fadiel has 15 years of experience in teaching bioinformatics and computational biology.
Akash received his PhD in Computational Biology from the Joint Carnegie-Mellon and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He specializes in biomedical imaging informatics and computational and systems pathology. Akash investigates the intrinsic characteristics of biomedical images at multi-scale resolutions using statistical modeling, computer vision, machine learning, and graph-based deep learning techniques. At HistoWiz, Akash develops tools to ensure quality images, accelerates histopathology, and develops AI tools for preclinical researchers across academic, biotech, and pharmaceutical domains.
Aleksandra Zuraw is a toxicologic pathologist at Charles River Laboratories and an online publisher at the Digital Pathology Place website. She graduated in veterinary medicine in Wroclaw, Poland, where she worked as a practitioner before pursuing the veterinary pathology training in Berlin, Germany. After finishing her residency and PhD she worked for a digital pathology company specializing in image analysis, which started a great passion for this discipline and resulted in the creation of the Digital Pathology Place website a blog and podcast with digital pathology informational resources. The next steps in her career led her into the field of toxicologic pathology through Canada into the US where she keeps applying her digital pathology and image analysis knowledge to improve the toxicopathologic workflows.
Alex Klimowicz is a Senior Principal Scientist in the Department of Immunology and Respiratory Disease Research at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In this capacity he leads the Spatial Biology Lab, implementing and applying cutting edge spatial biology platforms and image analysis workflows to build target to disease linkage in human tissue specimens for projects and external collaborations across the Department. Alex holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and has over 15 years of experience in the fields of digital pathology and quantitative immunohistochemsitry. Prior to moving to Boehringer Ingelheim, Alex was an Adjunct Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at the University of Calgary, where he led a core quantitative immunohistochemsitry lab focused on cancer biomarker research.
Dr. Andrew Evans is the Medical Director of Laboratory Medicine at Mackenzie Health (MH), a large community hospital in North Toronto that has transitioned to complete reporting by digital pathology. Prior to moving to MH in 2020, he was the Director of Digital Pathology at University Health Network (UHN) from the inception of the program in 2004. Over the last 10 years, Dr. Evans has been extensively involved in the development of guidelines and best practice documents for digital pathology with the College of American Pathologists (CAP). He chaired the expert panel for the recently updated CAP WSI Validation Guideline. He chaired the CAP Digital and Computational Pathology Committee from 2016-2021 and is currently a member of the CAP Artificial Intelligence Committee. His work in digital pathology was recognized with Meritorious Service Lifetime Achievement Award from The CAP in September, 2021.
Dr. April Khademi is Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University and Principle Investigator of the Image Analysis in Medicine Lab (IAMLAB), which specializes in the design of AI algorithms for pathology and radiology images. Her research is funded by NSERC, the Ontario Government, Alzheimers Society of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society and MITACs. April is an Affiliate Scientist and Investigator at St. Michaels Hospital, Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science & Technology (iBEST), Canadian Consortium of Neurodegeneration and Aging (CCNA) and Temerty Centre for AI in Medicine (T-CAIREM). She had previous roles in research at University of Guelph, GE Healthcare/Omnyx, Pathcore Inc., Sunnybrook Research Institute and Toronto Rehab Institute. April is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and IEEE Senior Member.
Dr. Dugger has led, enabled, and enhanced many cross-disciplinary projects, resulting in more than 75 peer-reviewed manuscripts and numerous private, state, and federally funded grants. Dr. Dugger earned her Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University and PhD from Mayo Clinic. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship and was an independent staff scientist at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute. In 2015, she became neuropathology core leader for academic/drug discovery groups at the Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of California San Francisco. Currently, she is an associate professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of California, Davis (UCD), neuropathology core co-leader of the UCD-Alzheimers Disease Research Center (ADRC), co-leader of UCD School of Medicine Machine Learning Working Group, and department Liaison for the Women in Medical and Health Sciences. Dr. Dugger is involved in many national endeavors, including the College of American Pathologists Neuropathology and ADRC Neuropathology Core Steering Committees.
Dr. J. Carl Barrett is Vice President & Global Head of Cancer Biomarker Development Early Oncology R&D at AstraZeneca. He is responsible for development and execution of biomarker strategies and translational sciences efforts to support compound development from research through early and full development in oncology.Previously, Dr. Barrett was the founding Director of the NCI Center for Cancer Research (CCR), the NCI intramural center for translation medicine. He was also Scientific Director at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences where he focused on integrating new approaches to toxicogenomics, molecular toxicology, and the Environmental Genome Project.
Dr. Carolyn Glass serves as Division Chief of Cardiovascular Pathology, Associate Residency Program Director and Co-Director, Division of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Pathology at Duke University. Dr. Glass initially trained as a vascular surgeon witha focuson endovascular/interventional procedures through the Integrated Vascular Surgery Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Glass subsequently completed residency in Anatomic Pathology at the Brigham and Womens Hospital/Harvard Medical School followed by fellowships in Cardiothoracic Pathology also at Brigham and Womens Hospital. Dr. Glass is also an NIH-funded Principal Investigator (U54, SBIR). In addition to her clinical and research activities, Dr. Glass serves on the Executive/National Committees for the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology and the College of American Pathology Artificial Intelligence Committee.

During his tenure, Coleman has driven customer adoption, system interoperability, and scientific validation, cementing Proscia’s position in the digital pathology market.
David Gutman, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Clinical Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Gutman joined the faculty at Emory in 2000, after completing his Psychiatry Residency. His group develops and maintains open source tools to support digital pathology including the Digital Slide Archive (DSA) package and HistomicsTK. He has broad expertise in medical imaging, having helped develop the International Skin Imaging Archive (ISIC), the Cancer Digital Slide Archive which contains 25,000+ whole slide images, and is also adapting these tools for neuropathology
Dr. David Rimm is the Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine (Oncology) at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is the Director of Yale Pathology Tissue Services and the Lab for Quantitative Diagnostics in Anatomic Pathology. He completed an MD-PhD at Johns Hopkins University Medical School followed by a Pathology Residency at Yale and a Cytopathology Fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. His research lab group focuses on quantitative pathology using the AQUA technology invented in his lab, and other quantitative methods, with projects related to predicting response and resistance to both targeted and immune- therapy in cancer. His lab is involved in the use of new high-plex methods including digital spatial profiling (NanoString) for new biomarker discovery. He is also interested in translation of assays to the clinic and standardization of those assays for CLIA labs. The work is supported by grants from the NIH, BCRF, and sponsored research agreements from biopharma. He also serves on the CAP Immunohistochemistry committee and multiple scientific advisory boards for biotech and pharma. He is an author of over 500 peer-reviewed papers with an H-index of 120 and 8 patents.
Douglas J. Hartman is an Associate Professor of Pathology, the Vice Chair of the Division of Pathology Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and a practicing gastrointestinal pathologist. He is board certified in both AP/CP and Clinical Informatics. He has been implementing digital pathology for primary signout and automated image analysis. He introduced automated image analysis to quantitate CD8 inflammatory cells within oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and colorectal carcinomas and to quantitate Ki-67 positive cells tumors. He has developed and deployed machine learning at UPMC. He has participated in implementing two different digital pathology solutions for routine anatomic pathology. Dr. Hartmans research in informatics focuses on practical application of informatics. He has published on informatics topics and given national and international talks. He actively participates in working groups between HIMSS/SIIM regarding standards development for interactive multimedia reports in all image based fields of medicine.
Dr. Elena de Miguel received her PhD in Neuropsychopharmacology from University of Helsinki, Finland. Currently she is the Lead of Histology & Imaging Department at the Dutch gene therapy company UniQure. Elenas team focuses on applying digital pathology and computational methods to advance gene therapy research. Elena has special interest in precise detection of gene therapy probes and cell phenotyping
Eric Runde joined Indica Labs in 2020 as the Principal Product Manager for HALO AP and subsequently took on the role of Chief Operating Officer in 2021. Prior to Indica Labs, Eric was a product manager at Varian Medical Systems after their acquisition of Mobius Medical Systems where he held product and customer support management roles. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Missouri and MS from University of Minnesota with a research emphasis on plasma science and nanotechnology.
Eric Wirch heads Corista’s technology development team focused on creating image-centric solutions for complex workflow and information management issues. Their approach emphasizes architecture, scalability, security and system availability. Mr. Wirch has more than 20 years of experience in the design and implementation of distributed and cloud-based computer systems, primarily for video and imaging systems. Mr. Wirch has designed and deployed solutions for some of the leading companies in video distribution and personalization and represents Corista on the DICOM standards committee. He currently holds fourteen issued patents (10 US and 4 international) with several more in process.
Erik Hagendorn is a Senior Data Scientist in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for the Information Research division at AbbVie Inc. He specializes in the application of deep learning to histopathology and spatial transcriptomics, leading computer vision research for Immunology R&D. Mr. Hagendorns expertise spans multiple disease areas but is most notably known for his work in inflammatory bowel disease. Prior to joining AbbVie in 2017, Mr. Hagendorn was a Senior Software Engineer and founding employee at Flagship Biosciences, Inc., and earned his MS in Pathology from the University of California, Davis, bringing over a decade of software engineering and machine learning experience in digital pathology.
Eyas M. Hattab, MD, MBA, is the AJ Miller endowed Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Louisville. Dr. Hattab is an internationally recognized neuropathologist and pathology business leader and a frequent invited speaker. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to many books and media appearances. Dr. Hattab is a passionate educator and the recipient of multiple teaching awards. He serves on many national and international professional societies governing the field of pathology, including AANP, APC, CAP, IAP, and USCAP. Dr. Hattab obtained his medical education from Jordan University of Science and Technology and completed his pathology training at the University of Florida, Stanford University, and Washington University. In addition, Dr. Hattab holds an Executive Business of Medicine MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He is an avid runner and cyclist and enjoys international travel and fine dining.
Dr. Faisal Mahmood is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Division of Computational Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a full member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Harvard Cancer Center ; an Associate Member of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. His laboratory works on developing foundation models, generative and agentic AI algorithms, methods, and techniques for healthcare with a particular focus on disease diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic response prediction. Dr. Mahmood’s lab has developed several widely used methods and algorithms for digital and computational pathology, and his lab’s work has been published in major scientific journals. He is also a principal investigator on several large NIH and ARPA-H grants. Dr. Mahmood is also the Scientific Co-Founder of Modella AI a company with a focus on developing generative and agentic AI tools for healthcare.
Dr Lujan holds dual board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and he is also certified by The American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. His clinical expertise is in Gastrointestinal Pathology. He completed a Surgical Pathology fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions after graduating from the Pathology residency program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr Lujan has held previous academic appointments at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was director of a GI fellowship program for several years.
Harsh Thaker is the Director of Anatomic Pathology and Vice Chair for Digital & Integrative Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX. At UTMB he led one of the earliest and most successful implementations of Digital Pathology in the US, with 100% digital primary diagnosis of surgical pathology and routine incorporation of AI-assistance tools for diagnosis of prostate and breast cancer. He is now collaborating with colleagues in Clinical Pathology, Radiology and Informatics to develop and implement AI-driven integrative diagnostic reports to guide patient management and deliver greater value to the health system. Dr. Thaker is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Informatics. He holds an MD from India and a PhD from Yale University.
Hiranmayi Ravichandran joined Englander Institute of Precision Medicine (EIPM) as a Mass Cytometry Specialist in 2018 and leads the mass cytometry initiative at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York. She is currently the Director of Spatial Biology at EIPM, actively involved in developing, optimizing and applying spatial-omics technologies to the benefit of scientific research.The acquisition of EIPMs CyTOF technology was made possible through a generous donation from Mr. Igor Tulchinsky and the WorldQuant, LLC for Quantitative Prediction. As part of Dr.Olivier Elementos lab (Director of EIPM), she develops and deploys high-dimensional imaging methods using Imaging Mass Cytometry to elucidate the spatial proteomics basis of human disease and physiology. Ongoing research includes single-cell level characterization of the Tumor-Immune microenvironment of lymphomas, Prostrate cancer, Colorectal cancer and triple negative breast cancer. She worked as a flow cytometrist at MGH Flow Core Lab in Boston for 3 years, where she was also trained on this novel CyTOF technology. Her contributions to the field are reflected through publications in journals such as Nature Science and Cell. She completed her Master of Science (MS) in Pharmacology at Northeastern University.
Hu Sheng Qian, Ph.D. M.D., more than twenty years experience of drug discovery in Big Pharma. Currently is Senior Principal Scientist and leading a Digital Histology Team at Cardiometabolic Disease Research, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc in Ridgefield, CT. Majorly focus on using automation and machine learning technology to perform histological staining and imaging analysis to support preclinical study for NASH and Obesity; and develop tissue-based biomarker assay to support human disease link and NTC.

With over 25 years of experience, he has been instrumental in shaping commercial strategy and operations to drive progress in the fight against cancer.
James holds an MBA with honors from the David Eccles School of Business. Throughout his career, he has played pivotal roles in commercial strategy and growth at industry-leading organizations such as Johnson & Johnson, Genzyme Corporation, and Clarient Diagnostics.

Dr. Jason Hipp, MD/PhD is the Chief Digital Innovation Officer for Mayo Collaborative Services (the commercial diagnostics arm of Mayo Clinic) and the Medical Director for Biopharma Diagnostics. He completed his undergraduate training at UCSD, his MD/PhD at Wake Forest University, residency in pathology at the NIH, and fellowship training in Informatics at the University of Michigan. He is a board-certified pathologist who has been active in the field of digital pathology, AI and cancer research. He spent most of hist time in Industry, having worked at Novartis, BMS and AstraZeneca. He was also the first pathologist hired by Alphabet and was the lead pathologist at Google. He spent two years before his current role involved in Mayo Clinic’s Practice, where he was the founder and Chair of the Division of Computational Pathology & Artificial Intelligence.
Dr. Farrell holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in experimental neuropathology and genomic sciences before starting his role as assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. His research aims to understand modifiers of the tau protein in elderly individuals across both normal and pathological aging. He is currently investigating how machine learning approaches in digital pathology can be integrated with genetic and transcriptomic data to understand drivers of tau proteostasis.
Being a practising histopathologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 1999, one of the busiest department in the UK, I appreciate the importance of state of the art medical informatics. Had a strong interest in healthcare informatics, been active on the field since 1980s, involving paperless hospital systems and cross-system database integration. Digital pathology also one of main interests interested in the standardisation of the digital pathology data, metadata development, dynamic SNOMED CT coding and educational aspects. Have been appointed as the Informatics Advisor for the Royal College of Pathologists 2011, Chair of the RCPath Informatics Committee since 2020. Have completed an MSc in Healthcare management in 2011 and MSc in Healthcare Informatics in 2022.
Mark Gustavson is in Translational Medicine Oncology at AstraZeneca where he leads biomarker development and translational medicine strategy within the Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) program. Before moving to Translational Medicine, he was part of the Precision Medicine group at AstraZeneca leading development of Companion Diagnostics. Prior to joining AstraZeneca, he was with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) where he served as both scientific reviewer and member of the Personalized Medicine Group reviewing and developing policy for companion diagnostic devices including digital pathology and next-generation sequencing. Prior to the FDA, he was Vice President of Diagnostics for MetaStat, Inc. developing cutting edge quantitative pathology-based diagnostics; and before MetaStat, he worked with Genoptix and HistoRx developing quantitative pathology technologies and applications (e.g. AQUA Technology). Mark received his Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Vanderbilt University and did his post-doctoral fellowship under Dr. David Rimm at Yale University.
Matthew G Hanna, MD is the Director of Digital Pathology Informatics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is an Assistant Attending of Breast pathology and Informatics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he completed his Oncologic Pathology fellowship training. Prior appointments include being a Clinical Instructor of Pathology Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also completed his Pathology Informatics fellowship. He completed his residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr Hanna serves as a board member of the Digital Pathology Association and NY Pathological Society. He also actively contributes as the Vice Chair of the CAP AI Committee and as a member of the Informatics Committee. He has strong interests in clinical and pathology informatics, computational pathology, and breast pathology.
Michael is the global business leader for Dell Technologies Healthcare UDS division and also serves at the Chief Technology Officer for Digital Pathology. He is a member of the Educational Advisory Board at Imaging Technology News and sits on the Digital Pathology Associations Education and Digital Content Committees. Leveraging his background in bio-medical engineering and more than 20 years of clinical informatics and imaging experience, Michael is a subject matter expert in the areas of enterprise imaging and pathology informatics. He is deeply focused on the strategic linkage between clinical requirements and informatics capabilities in order to deliver a customer-enabling vision for optimally leveraging technology in achieving organizational objectives and improving care.
Nathalie Fiaschi, PhD, is a Director in Oncology at Regeneron and leads the Clinical Histology Core. Her group supports biomarker studies using various histology technologies as well as digital pathology and quantitative image analysis tools. She received her PhD (2000) in Pharmacology at the Universit Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France, and moved to the US in to start her post doc on cardiovascular disease and cell cycle at the University of Pittsburgh. As part of her interest in cell cycle regulation, she moved her research focus to Diabetes as an Assistant Professor (2006) and studied the regulation of human pancreatic beta cell regeneration as a cell replacement therapy for Diabetes. She continued her research on Diabetes at Mount Sinai, New York in 2013, as an Associate Professor and joined Regeneron in 2016.
Orly Ardon is the Director of Digital Pathology Operations and an assistant member at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
She has expertise in microbiology, molecular, and digital pathology. Orly completed the degrees of BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. in Microbiology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an Executive MBA from the University of Utah. Her postdoctoral training was in cell biology and virology at the University of Utah. Before joining MSKCC, Orly was heading the development of novel computer assisted diagnostic tools and the expansion of digital pathology collaborative initiatives at ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Ardon career focuses on diagnostic test advancements and laboratory innovation. Her work in digital pathology is centered on operational aspects of the digital technologies and the clinical implementation of laboratory automation. Her interests also include process improvements and healthcare economics.
Prof. Schffler’s (*1983) field of research is the area of digital and computational pathology. This includes novel machine learning approaches for the detection, segmentation and grading of cancer in pathology images, prediction of prognostic markers and outcome prediction (e.g. treatment response). Further, he investigates the efficient visualization of high-resolution digital pathology images, automated QA, new ergonomics for pathologists, and holistic integration of digital systems for clinics, research and education. Prof. Schffler received his BSc and MSc in Computational Biology at the Saarland University and the MPI, Saarbrcken, Germany. In 2015, he graduated his doctoral studies in machine learning for medical image data analysis at the ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He deepened his expertise in digital and computational pathology as a Postdoc and Sr. ML Scientist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center New York, USA, where he co-founded Paige. In 2021, Prof. Schffler was appointed to the professorship for computational pathology at TUM.
Dr. Qing Li is a physician scientist with over 20 years of clinical, academic, and industrial experiences in diagnostic, translational and clinical research with primary focus in oncology. She received her MD from school of Medicine, Shandong University where she practiced medicine as an anatomic pathologist before she earned PhD in molecular biology Japan. During her time at Harvard Medical School, she made impactful contribution in the field of anti-angiogenesis, vascular anomaly and vascular development research. Qing has a special interest in integrated approach for CDx development in clinical trials centered around digital pathology with AI/ML application. She is a co-inventor of the first IF based Multi-Omics technology platform. Qing is a forward-thinking, strategic leader in precision medicine. She led multiple clinical studies integrated novel technology in clinical trials that has made significant impact.
Dr. Krishnamurthy is a Professor of Pathology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Her areas of expertise include Breast Pathology and Cytopathology. She is a nationally and internationally recognized Breast Pathologist and Cytopathologist who has contributed significantly towards patient care, education and clinical translational research. She is committed towards advancing our understanding of the biology and management of breast cancer and has several contributions related to clinical research, genomics and proteomics of breast cancer. In recent years, she has been an avid researcher and leading investigator for the investigation of optical imaging modalities in pathology, digital and computational pathology studies which are predicted to make revolutionary changes to the field of Anatomic Pathology. She has been included in the “Best Doctors of America” and US News and World Report listing of Top Pathologists of America since 2008.
Dr. Shahla Masood is a Persian born physician, who currently holds the positions of Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology at University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville. She is the Director of the Cytopathology and Breast Pathology Fellowship Training Programs, as well as the Medical Director of UF Health Breast Center, Chair of the Cancer Committee, and Interim Director of UF Health Jacksonville Cancer Program. As an internationally recognized expert in breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis, Dr. Masood has fostered the concept of an integrated multidisciplinary approach in breast cancer care, research, and education. She is the founder and first Editor-in-Chief of The Breast Journal, the founder and past president of the International Society of Breast Pathology, the Director of the Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Breast Disease, and The Breast Cancer Public Forum. Dr. Masood is a patient advocate, a partner in community affairs and an accomplished artist and gourmet chef. She is the wife of her talented and loving husband, Dr. Ahmad Kasraeian and a mother of two accomplished physicians, Dr. Ali Kasraeian, an urologist, and Dr. Sina Kasraeian, an orthopedic surgeon, as well as a caring grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren.
As a biomedical professional with more than 15 years of experience, Staci specializes in the design and implementation of regulatory and product development strategies for initial market entry, as well as global expansion. Her most recent therapeutic area of focus has been in oncology and immuno-onocology, including therapeutic/diagnostic codeveloment, but she has experience in multiple therapeutic areas, as well as expert technical knowledge of various methodologies and techniques. Working in both a CRO and Sponsor capacity, she has represented pharmaceutical and device companies as a liaison with FDA and other global regulatory agencies, such as the EMA. Staci holds a PhD in Immunology and has maintained her regulatory affairs certification (RAC) since 2015.
Stefan Hamann is the Head of Image Analysis at the Translational Neuropathology department at Biogen in Cambridge, MA. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Hamburg, Germany. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University, he joined Aureon Biosciences, the first biotech startup to commercialize clinical prognostic tests based on the Systems Pathology approach. During his time at Aureon he developed multiplex biomarker detection and quantification technologies for the first commercial prognostic prostate cancer test launched in 2006. Subsequently, he joined the Translational Neuropathology group at Biogen. His current research is focused on the application of whole slide imaging and image analysis in drug development with a special emphasis on high-throughput image processing and AI integration.
Dr. Hart is an Associate Professor and Senior Associate Consultant-AI at Mayo Clinic. He has a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Kansas Medical Center, focusing on pharmacogenomics. Dr. Hart joined Mayo Clinic in 2011, working in breast cancer genomics. Since then, he led the development of bioinformatics core workflows, high performance computing activities/migrations, and also served two years as a Co-Director of the Clinical Genome Sequencing Lab. Dr. Hart saw the potential for Digital Pathology and AI in 2016 and has built algorithms for ink removal from slides, convolutional networks for skin lesion classification, and ancillary software products for doing AI in WSIs. He also gained expertise in cloud computing, becoming a Certified GCP Architect in 2022. He is now in charge of Data Strategy & Infrastructure for the Division of Computational Pathology and AI, as well as leading a transformative 3D Pathology and Virtual Reality program.
I obtained my medical degree from Calicut Medical College, India followed by a PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. I completed my residency in Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology as well as fellowship training in hematopathology, renal and genitourinary pathology in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. After completing my training, I was recruited as faculty in the department of Pathology where I sign out as an attending in the two subspecialties: renal pathology and hematopathology. I am also the Director of Digital Pathology in the department. In addition to my diagnostic interests, I am also interested in the evolution and application of Digital Pathology techniques in clinical medicine.
